Operating Modes (Scan Client)
CROSSCAP Enterprise Manual > CROSSCAP Scan-Client > Operating Modes (Scan Client)

Whenever a CROSSCAP Scan-Client is run as part of a CROSSCAP Enterprise system, it (still) exhibits two main modes of operation:

Quick Mode

Quick mode is used to quickly scan a few documents whenever there are no requirements for a special output file structure, or for barcode recognition. Quick mode is active when no batch is running. Also, a "Quickmode" watermark is shown in the image window(s), for as long as quick mode is active.

When operating in quick mode, advanced functions such as barcode recognition and digital signatures are not available. All tools for viewing scans, processing images and inserting additional documents, however, are available in quick mode as well as in project mode.

Project mode

Project mode requires you to predefine scan jobs through batch settings. Project templates are used to store these batch settings and let you execute them repeatedly and whenever required. Project templates are invariably kept in the central CROSSCAP Enterprise server database, however, they may be exported for use in other CROSSCAP Enterprise systems (see chapter Main menu server, Templates toolbar).

The following diagram shows the interaction between a CROSSCAP Scan-Client and the CROSSCAP Enterprise server, in project mode:

Items above the dotted red line are part of the CROSSCAP Enterprise server, the items below the dotted red line are part of the CROSSCAP Scan-Client:

Important changes:

  1. As soon as a CROSSCAP Scan-Client becomes part of a CROSSCAP Enterprise system, batches can no longer be finalized on the CROSSCAP Scan-Client itself. All batches are invariably finalized and exported by the central CROSSCAP Enterprise server.
  2. As soon as a CROSSCAP Scan-Client becomes part of a CROSSCAP Enterprise system, the process manager no longer handles batch finalization. Instead, it manages the transmission of scanned images from a  CROSSCAP Scan-Client to the  CROSSCAP Enterprise server.
If activated, the process manager can therefore be used to manually delay or schedule the transmission of image data. This, in turn, provides a means of prioritizing (sequencing) the processing of batch-jobs, on a CROSSCAP Enterprise server.
